Searching for the Motherland
52 picture exhibition about British West Indian life during the 1970’s
This collection of 52 A2 and A3 mounted images forms an indepth look into the heart of (mostly) London’s black community during the 1970’s. Robert spent months being passed from one individual or groups to others, being trusted as a white foreign outsider to make respectful images of people’s struggle to live and learn and make a living while maintaining their sense of dignity in a racist society. Robert said,”I wasn’t photographing events so much as photographing people’s pain, hardship and joy”. This exhibition, never as yet shown, is available to be hung.
