TCFT
TCFT is an international project founded and led by Tina Ellen Lee of Opera Circus, alongside youth leaders and activists from the UK and Europe. Since the work began in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2008 it has involved over 1200 young people from the ages of 13 – 30, 30 artists and facilitators and over 50 project and technical managers, care assistants and others with expertise in well-being and trauma. Partners in the work have come from Portugal, Italy, Denmark, BiH, Georgia, Serbia and the UK.
TCFT uses cultural and artistic activities to provide creative leadership skills, increase social cohesion and raise cultural awareness for young people in the UK and Europe, including those from disadvantaged or disenfranchised social groups.
Tolerance, inclusiveness, deeper critical learning and an understanding of others are at the heart of the process, which transcends language barriers and creates safe spaces where real change can occur.
The learning from TCFT is now being fed into the development of Opera Circus’ opera and music theatre production processes. In the long term TCFT will become a youth led organisation in its own right, partnering globally and using Activism through Art to make positive change for young people and their communities.
“Robert Golden has photographed and filmed the work of Opera Circus for 30 years. It is rare that an artistic company has had its work documented in this way, a whole history of creativity, with such quality and beauty. An Italian artist said recently that when Robert isn’t there to reflect our work, then only half of what we do is present.”
