ABOUT THE COURSE
THINKING PHOTOGRAPHY will take you on a journey of images and imagination; images that transformed me from being a child living in a home with no regard for art and with no books nor ideas to discuss, into a person who has lived an entire adult existence dedicated to making photographs and films, and more, dedicated to revealing, as best I have, the underlying realities of our world.
I’ll share with you how paintings, photographs and other arts from our history affected my picture making.
I hope that in sharing my experiences you may see that we can walk away from the suffocating world of conventions, from the nonsense of sexism and macho nationalism, from racism and the hatred of those who are different, to ways of thinking which ask questions about who and what we are and who we wish to become and for me, what my responsibilities to others should have been and in particular, what my responsibilities with a camera could be.

ROBERT AS A TEACHER

“Through his generous sharing of knowledge, experience and post-processing during the six lockdown workshops, Robert helped me clarify my own voice. Exploring the work of those who’ve gone before and studying the importance of every detail, he encouraged a confidence in our own unique vision. I celebrate the creative freedom to develop my own photographic stories.”
Joy Uglow, England

“What Robert said about “photographers as storytellers being a messenger of reality, bringing gifts of understanding” has stuck with me. There’s a poetry to it.”
M.A., Somalia

“For as long as I can remember, I have been invisible to the world. When I signed up to Robert’s photography course I was expecting to learn how to use my camera in a technical sense; actually it became a whole new life, opening up a whole would of emotion, self-pride and direction that I didn't realize I had. The journey he took us through made me learn I DO have potential - one thing I was never told I had, that is one thing I believe has held me back.”
Toni, England
